NEWS: 100,000 face masks to be distributed at APA

ENGLEWOOD, CO - Approximately 100,000 cotton face masks arrived at Centennial Airport on Friday, July 31. The shipment comes as part of a federal program, announced earlier in the year by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to provide non-medical face masks for use in the aviation, transit, and passenger rail transportation sectors.Distribution to flight schools, charter companies, and other APA-based tenants is currently underway.

Under the federal program, approximately 86.8 million coverings are to be distributed to airports, and 9.6 million coverings distributed to 458 transit agencies, including Amtrak.

“This Administration is committed to protecting our people and reopening the economy; distributing these facial coverings will help boost public confidence as we begin to resume our normal lives,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), alongside the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has been working with states, industries, and stakeholders to ensure that the traveling public has access to cloth facial coverings. The cloth facial coverings secured by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were sent to airports, transit agencies, and Amtrak.
